Because they want to be sad?
In all seriousness, they've probably read somewhere that is what they have to do to be healthy or lose weight or whatever it is that they are seeking. Which is untrue...7 -
I guess first I'd want to know where you live that everyone you know is going vegan, as vegans in my country are just .5% of the population. Obviously the vegans in your country have found a way to persuade many more people than vegans here have . . .
Have you considered asking all the individuals you know why they're becoming vegan? Some of them may be willing to discuss it with you and you can better understand where they're coming from.1 -
There are humanitarian, health, and environmental reasons to adopt a vegan lifestyle, in addition to it just being kind of trendy these days. Did you ask them? (I'm not vegan myself.)1

Apparently 'Veganuary" is a popular fad this year. Think Dry January, but cutting out animal products instead of booze for a month.0

I did ask them and all they say is meat is sooo bad for you and dairy is worse?Kathryn247 wrote: »There are humanitarian, health, and environmental reasons to adopt a vegan lifestyle, in addition to it just being kind of trendy these days. Did you ask them? (I'm not vegan myself.)

Let me guess, they read "Skinny Witch" (except with a B ) or watched some ridiculous mockumentary?
Meat and dairy (or any food) isn't bad for you, unless you are allergic or it's gone rancid.3 -

I can respect people who go vegan for humanitarian or environmental reasons, but not folks who do it for BS reasons.5 -

You could have a fun little inside bet with yourself on how long it will take them to give up.1 -

What the Health is 100% vegan propaganda. It's not remotely trying to look at things from multiple perspectives. Even renowned vegans have been critical of it for it's scare mongering tactics that aren't remotely based on science or fact...just twisting things to match up with their agenda.3 -

I definitely don’t agree.
I guess I’ll just say, that’s their opinion and it’s their life.
It’s definitely not for me.

Some people choose the Vegan lifestyle after doing diligent research into animal welfare and the ecological effect animal farming may be having on the planet. These people also do diligent research into hidden animal products that are used in things that are not food related. These people also do diligent research into how to make sure that their way of eating will provide them with all the nutrition they need to be healthy. This people have strong ethical views on all of this.
I respect these people because as far as I can see choosing a Vegan lifestyle is not the easy option. It takes a great deal of commitment and passion to change your lifestyle so drastically.
Some people say they are Vegan just because they like animals and don't want to eat them.
Some people think it is an easy way to lose weight.
Some people say they are Vegan just because it is the latest thing to be.
Most of these people are either not really Vegan in the true sense and are more likely Vegetarian.
The people who amuse me and I have little respect for are people who claim to be Vegan but still eat meat "occasionally". WTF? If that is so then you are an Omnivore, admit it and get over yourself.
I couldn't and wouldn't because.... well.... meat.
And of course I could be wrong on all counts and if I am I am sure someone will put me right

Most people I know are vegan either for religious purposes or ethics/environment.
I'll admit - when I found out Tom Brady was vegan I was tempted...0
