Thank you Barbie for sharing your success strategies. I’m 63 and struggle with my weight going up and down. When it goes up it’s hard to get it down. A daily planner sounds like a great idea as well as writing my food down.

Good day, 60'ers! Sunshine and warmth here in Missouri today, so I'm planning a bike ride this afternoon. (Fractured my tibial plateau about 3 years ago on a 2-wheeler, so now I ride a 3-wheeler! :)JTWoody, welcome and congratulations on your can-do attitude! You will make it happen! So great to read through everyone's plans and ways-to-work MFP to their best advantage. I filled in most of my food choices for today last night, which helps keep me on track as so many others of you have noted. After losing 10 pounds since the first of the year, I am stuck on a plateau right now but will not give up. I've found for myself exercise is the real key and with the nicer weather I have been able to be more consistent. I love walking and riding outdoors and am really looking forward to that extra hour of daylight in the evenings next week. Have a great day, everyone!

Hello to you! I read an earlier post from you that mentioned you were in Mid-Missouri....Columbia or Jefferson City? I'm in Kansas City and it's nice to see someone else from MO and yes, it is a beautiful day, have a great ride!

:) I write in a gratitude journal every morning. I've done that since 1998 when my life was in a great crisis. A friend suggested that I make a gratitude list every day. It made no sense to me but I did it anyway. I write 3-10 items every day and it helps me focus on what is going right in my life rather than wallowing in what might be going wrong. I found morning works best for me but some people like to do the list at bedtime.

thank you for this, I started to list things to be grateful for some years ago when my life was hard but did it in my head & out loud to God, it really made a difference but today I'm going to write it down since my life is in between leaving stress & not quite settling into a new routine (limbo mode i call it). It's a lovely day today, around 70degrees & sunny. Already took dogs to dog park & will walk the ones that couldn't go today. I also started back to the gym after taking time off so I will go soon because I find if I do something else first I don't usually go. The gym is like a mini vacation for me, where I put on my headphones & leave whatever is bothering me behind, especially the year round pool & it's literally 3 minutes drive from my house

Hey, y'all. Catching up here after four days on the Salmon River. Good friends, good R&R and slow fishing. C'est la vie!

I live in southwest Idaho - between Boise and the Oregon border. Spring is on the way here - had to peel off my jacket while walking the dog this afternoon. YAY!

What a great way to spend your time,

I’m 65 and I’m an on again off again Fitness Pal user. I’m still down thirty but the bad news is I started at 360. I got more problems than a run over dog. Diabetes hypertension arthritis corpol tunnel CAD for starters but I’m blessed to still be here alive and kickin. I ain’t going down without a fight. Fitness Pal works I know that I just need to stick with it. I’m going to try my best because I do not want weight loss surgery. Grace and Peace to you all.

Good luck I'm sure you will succeeded!

Hi Barbie... I live in Nor Cal just above Santa Rosa. Near the wine country fires of recent years. Beautiful but also hot in summer. Now we contend with the power shuts offs for our own safety every summer and fall. But still lovely area to live...
I apologize for my downright negative earlier first post. Life is still grand, I just feel beat up sometimes but so grateful for all the blessings in my life!

Love coming home in the evenings and checking in to see how everyone is doing! I walked to work again today, in the rain, which was fun, it had stopped for the walk home and got up to 60 for the day. Got 5 miles walking total today with extra walks. I was so tired when I got home I wanted to crash on the couch but had promised myself my arm weight workout, after I finished I was soooo happy that I did it. My food is still great because of logging it all ahead of time, and of course checking in here daily has kept me honest as well. Everyone have a great evening.

:) One of the great things about this thread is being able to unload and vent when necessary and then get inspired a bit by what others are sharing. I think every place has its down side no matter how beautiful. Gratitude is what helps me focus on what is right with my life. When my friends in Northern California have told me about power shut offs, I become extra grateful for electricity. When I hear how hot it is somewhere, I am grateful for the heat pump at my house that keeps us cool. At some of the worst times in my life, I've had to stand still and say, "I have clean clothes, indoor plumbing, food in the fridge, a roof over my head,...."

:) One of my secrets of success is that I walk whether it's sunny or not or even in the dark. I live in NW WA where the sky is cloudy a lot and days are very short in the fall and winter. I can't afford to let the outdoors tell me when to walk. I love to see the sunrise while I walk my dogs.

Just checking in here. Went to the gym this morning for the my first lifting workout in a couple of weeks. Lordy, the strength goes away quickly. Bench was off about 15 pounds, but deadlift was off about 40 pounds. Yikes! A reminder to find a way to do some sort of lifting workout, even when away from the gym.

    Y'all have an awesome day!

Hello all, I have been having a few geat days since my last check-in so that got me to reflecting. I guess that's an important part of this journey- looking at my behaviour and trying to figure out the whys. When I was away at the wine shin-dig I did OK- 7/10 on the plan. But when I got to my sisters' house I was completely off the ranch in terms of sweets and portion size. When I came back home I easily went back on plan and have (as @AnnPT77 said) already lost 2.1 of the 3+ pounds I gained during that 6 days. So why this lapse???? I have done a lot of reading about self-sabotage and the only one that seems to resonate is thinking " it is not fair that I have to miss out on sweets forever " which strikes me a childish for a preT2DM with a bad heart history. Almost like a tantrum. Embarrassing really. Any insights, comments, suggestions? Thanks

:)bacpath Abstinence is useful tool to many people with serious health issues (alcoholics, celiac, allergies to nuts, shellfish, strawberries) It's a.personal and adult decision to abstain from certain foods for your health. I am capable of abstaining from many foods that I am not able to eat in moderation. :)

Hi all and welcome to the group newbies.

Been staying busy. Decided it would be a good idea to listen to the media and headed to the big box store (you know the one with the hot dogs, ice cream and pizza you must walk past to exit store) and stock up on supplies. As usual my tracker was completed early in the morning.

After shopping rushed to exercise class in the building followed by a nice walk around the neighborhood in the sunshine noticing natures changes as the days get longer. Next was a meeting and pizza lunch was served, ugh oh!!! I've so been craving pizza. Wait, ok I can take a slice for tomorrow and track accordingly right?

So pizza goes in the fridge and I hurry to knitting group. That 700 calorie slice (who knew) was calling out to me so I thought about it, reworked my tracker and took another short walk so I'd stay in the calorie green, prepared an extra-large salad for a filling side and savored every bite of the pie.

I must teach myself how to sensibly eat what I'm craving or enjoy traditionally as long as they won't change my path forward. As @barbiecat mentioned there will be things where abstinence is the only choice. @bacpath I hope you can find the answers to keeping your resolution scales in the green and still enjoy your favorite things in moderation by planning, moving and reflecting on what's best each day.

Having this thread for sharing our challenge and glory makes each day more manageable. Thanks for listening. Thanks for sharing. Please keep coming back. Om....

It's so nice to come here & see how everyone's doing & what ya'll up to. Today was way too busy but not my fault. I had to take a client to Dr which didn't take long at all but the few errands I had to do after took a long time due to the crowd's at Costco & Walmart & the traffic. I stopped by the pharmacy on way home & mentioned how busy it is & the pharmacy person said it's due to ppl stocking up due to the corona virus. It was crazy. By the time I got home (it took 2.5 hours) I was too tired to walk (good thing I walked before I left), go to dog park, gym or start lasagna for tomorrows pot luck. My friday job is very physical & tiring so I really wanted to start it today. I get in about 8,000 steps on friday mornings. So today I did good on my calories. I still have 700 left for dinner, I'm not going to eat all of them. Had lots of protein today which keeps me full

Good morning 60 & uppers :) Been doing well with my eating and moving as well, but seem to be at a plateau. No worries, this too shall pass B)

alteredsteve175, hey at least you are going to the gym :) Give yourself a pat on the back for effort.

bacpath, Hey good for you you're losing the little bit you gained (((hug))) As for how I deal with that "why me" feeling sorry for myself thing is to... Have a keto choclate mug cake for breakfast about once a week (that takes care of my chocolate cravings) and deconstructed pizza now and then (all you love in a pizza but the crust). You can find the recipe for both on the Pinterest page :smiley:https://www.pinterest.com/frantz_lynn/ Oh, I nearly forgot... I also found a butter cookie (Dollar General) that is very low in carbs and calories I sometimes have two with my morning coffee B)

josephinebowman Welcome and congrats on your 26 pound loss :) You've come to the right place for encouragement and support. Keep coming back.

ekim2016, good to see you pop in :) Retirement will come before you know it and you find you are busier than when you worked LOL

barbiecat, I'm with you on abstaining from those foods that are a trigger for me to binge ;) I can't have those darn Lays Jalapeno Poppables in the house ... they just disappear LOL

j29t, sounds like you had a really busy day  There are ways to do the eating thing and not completely deprive yourself of all the things you like... read what I wrote to bacpath... You'll find those things that satisfy without causing a binge ;) We can do this if we stick to it and be there for one another <3

AnnPT77, I love the crocuses  I haven't seen any up this way yet. If you find a way to eat Old-school Taco Flavor Doritos in moderation, please share and it might help me with my Lays Jalapeno Poppables LOL

Evamutt, I will say a prayer for you to get through today o:) 8000 steps wow... Hey, you could have had a piece of j29t's pizza with those 700 calories left LOL

annliz23 Good to see you

Have a blessed day everyone

Shout out to my friends <3
