Kickboxing

I just signed up for some kickboxing classes. I've taken some martial arts in the past, yoga etc but have never done actual kickboxing. I was wondering if anyone can offer some tips. I assume hydrate a lot which I usually drink around 80 oz a day but I was confused as it said online to eat carbs before going. Is this normal? I know it burns a high level of calories but shouldn't I eat protein rather than carbs?

Yes because you will need energy and that's provided by Carbs better than Protein. Protein is beneficial for maintaining muscle and reducing muscle soreness.

Carbs fuel your cardio workouts. Protein nurishes your body for muscle building and repair.
Be prepared to be winded - it's hard work. It's a great cardio workout. If you like it and decide to continue, invest in your own boxing gloves. Get ones that can be washed and buy some inexpensive charcoal glove deodorizers like the ones in the link below. They work well for drying out sneakers after a run in the rain too!

Stretch. You don't need to change macros to start martial arts. You'll be learning form first1

Thank you! I'm excited to try. I've done light boxing and self defense while I was in the military and they was something cathartic about hitting stuff for me so I'm hoping this helps with a bit of stress I have trouble getting rid of.0

I do kickboxing DVDs and have taken class. I don't eat before my workout.0
