Feeling discouraged

I started really focusing last week...eating right and working out and logging everything! At weeks end I came in 269 over weekly calorie goal but somehow gained 3.5 pounds! I am at a total loss. I’m almost 39 and have 15-20 pounds to lose. Help me not totally give up!

New workouts will cause your muscles to retain water to repair themselves. This water weight will show up on the scale. Keep doing the right things and you'll get there.

When you change your diet and activity, your body changes how much water it hangs onto. I know not to expect any loss when my muscles are sore.
If you are eating more fiber or less fat, you may also have more stuff working it's way through your intestines.1 -
One week is not nearly enough time. Give it at least 4-6 weeks and then reassess if you are weighing and logging your food correctly. If everything is 100% correct, then lower your calories by 100. Keep doing this until you start losing.
