I mean the whole point to dieting is eating healthy and eating less calories, and carbs and fat, and exercising. well is it ok to sneak in low fat candy bar, or a bag of baked chips, or a caramel latte here and there as long as you stay under your calories?

Alot of people think that because you are dieting you can't enjoy something that you want. If you want it and you still fall within your calorie, fat carb, etc range do it! Because if you don't you'll fall off the wagon and hard!0

I dont see the problem with it, its living, you are still going to crave these things and in moderation I would and probably have. If you deprive yourself you wont be able to stick to your eating good0

I'm sure there are a many points of view on this question. So, I offer you my opinion only. First of all, I don't think dieting is the right word to use. When I hear dieting I think deprivation and that is not fun. Telling me directly or indirectly what I can or can't have is never good. That said, I tend to think of it as changing my eating habits to ensure I eat a healthy, well balanced diet to have my body perform at it's maximum capacity. I say if you are taking care of your body with healthy eating and exercise, then having that "splurge" item every now again will keep you from going on a binge at some point and blowing a whole day or week.
So, I say go for it... in moderation of course!0 -
Hunny I just went to olive garden- didn't go crazy didn't have the alfredo but had a very yummy soup, and 1/3 of a dessert. I have 1 miniture hershey's candy at least every other day. This isn't a diet its a life change and its unrealistic to think that you will cut EVERYTHING unhealthy out ALWAYs. its about portion, and frequency. other wise you won't stick with it0

Hi - I would say yes its absolutely necessary to treat yourself every once in a while not so much for watching the #s, but for your own sanity. in my experience, if you deny yourself completely of these things your body will revolt against you and the cravings will become harder and harder to resist until you give in. i'd say you'd still want to log it in though just so that you can see what you are taking in. but definitely treat yourself once in a while i say. i find what works well is to give myself a "free day" or "free meal."
speaking from experience, i monitored all of those things but still was not losing weight until i started tracking my sugar intake, so i'd suggest watching that as well.
its all about moderation and choices as you said -- baked chips over fried one, low fat over non-low fat, etc.0 -
smart adivce.
it's ok to endulge in your favorite treat once in a while, as long as having it, won't put you over your daily calories. if you don't give in, one day it'll hit you, and you'll binge hard. and more often than not, lately. there are healty alternatives to most endulgences, you just have to look for them, and hope you enjoy them as much.0 -
