Slow metabolism? HELP!

Hey folks!

I'm trying to lose weight (mostly measures, actually). For that, I implemented a 1.200 kcal/day diet (not keto or LC or anything like that - just low junk food!).
I'm working out 3x a week (2x weight lifting and 1x pole dance) and it's been the beginning of the 3rd week.

I had a pullback this Saturday, went to a restaurant and had a HUGE waffle with ice cream and chocolate fudge and some strawberries (these were just so I could tell I was "eating fruits" hahahah). Happened that I just didn't feel good and passed the whole Sunday throwing up and had nothing to eat until about 1 a.m. Monday (I managed to drink a scoop of Garden of Life Sport protein powder - and my stomach HURT BAD).

Ok ok, weird part comes here: I actually GAINED 3 lbs - how can that be?! Exercise + diet for 2 weeks and at the first mistake I gain 3 lbs?! ;_; HALP.

Your weight as shown on the scale is mostly represented by the amount of water, food and waste in your body. So depending on how much of those you have in you at any given time, your weight will vary. Scale weight is not a good representation of your fat. And fat loss is what you should be after. So just keep to your deficit.

you didnt gain 3 pounds from a waffle and ice cream .

    it normal, expected fluctuations.

i had fried chicken and waffles for dinner the other day and am still down for the week.

one data point does not make a difference and is not important. it is the overall trend that IS important. this is why we often advise NOT to weigh daily if those normal fluctuations freak you out (and, as i said, 3 pounds is normal. for ME mine fluctuates 5 pounds on any given day- shoot i had a random 4 pound difference this morning in a 30 minute period (weighed, forgot exact number, went back to redo it). the change was for no reason at all. its NORMAL). weighing once a week, or twice a month or even once a month is better for some people.

I'd say chalk it up to your gastrointestinal problems. Sounds like you're either sick or got a bit of food poisoning, or maybe hungover? Any or all of those things can cause weight fluctuations.

    Stay the course.

Oh, and eat a vegetable every meal (or at least every day) it will help you stay nourished properly. A well-fed and well nourished body just functions better and it does make it easier to fight off cravings when you're getting what you need.

If you are worried about a slow metabolism l.... get your rmr tested... not 100%, but it will show you where you are.

Not a metabolism issue. Just a fluctuation. Depending on your weight loss goals, you'll need anywhere from 4-8 weeks to see a fat loss trend, because daily fluctuations (in mostly fluid) are much bigger than your fat changes in the short term. You can't short cut this. It takes time.

1200 for most people is too low. Are you eating back a portion of your exercise calories, if not, you are being too aggressive. You should eat around the amount that MFP tells you based on the data you entered plus at least half your exercise calories. Weight loss is not something to push through as fast as you can.

In addition to understanding normal weight fluctuations it is also helpful to know the numbers. To figure out your daily maintenance calories you need to add 250 for every half pound you told MFP you wanted to lose. On any day you eat under your maintenance calories you will lose weight even if it does not show up on the scale. This weight is hopefully all fat unless you are being too aggressive and then some of it will be muscle. If you eat more than your maintenance you will gain weight. In order to gain 3lbs of fat in a single day you would have to eat all your maintenance calories plus another 10,500 (3500 calories per pound). This is highly unlikely.

Even if you go over your maintenance for a single day unless you wipe out your deficit for the entire week you will still be losing weight just a little less.
