Hey everybody!

Anybody here running the TM Tri-State in October?
I'm running my third one on Saturday with a few of my buddies...

Who else is going to be there?

I've really been wanting to do this but don't think I am ready yet. Sorry to get off topic but since you've done it before I have to ask: Any specific programs you used to prepare for it? Is it nearly as intense as people make it out to be? What would be min. requirements for certain things like say pull-ups to be able to do so you can make through without skipping anything?

Like, I said, sorry it is off-topic but haven't met anyone who has actually done it yet so I have so many questions.

I didn't do a specific training regimen but I incorporated certain exorcises into my routine. The most important thing is that you can't just train for it like its a race. That kind of training will help conditioning, but you also need to incorporate interval training.

Mud will be the biggest obstacle on the course. Trudging through mud will tax your lower body severely, so its important to have a strong posterior chain and conditioned calves. You'll want to lots of lunges, side lunges, squats, mountain climbers, bear walks, box jumps, calf raises and of course running on sand or mud!
With equipment there's squats and dead-lifts, plyo jumps and any basic kettlebell routine with ballistic movements.

As for the obstacle and upper body, you can probably get through the whole thing if you can pull off 3 or 4 sets of 10 pull ups regularly. The hardest upper body obstacle will probably be the monkey bars, because you can't assist with your legs and they'll be slippery from mud.
You'll need to strengthen your shoulders and back... your best bet is body weight exercises.

It is an intense event, but its not crazy... you'll run for a bit, hit a bottleneck for an obstacle, then rinse and repeat. If you work up to it and have fun you'll be fine.
