Hi Al,

Looks like a great site.

Started yesterday after a briefing from my docter on my cholesterol levels.

He's told me to get my LDL down, HDL up to normal levels and loose 20Kg in 6 months. :noway: :blushing:

Any tips/advice/food lists/recipes welcome.

Good luck everyone.

best regards,

Panjabi.

I started my new lifestyle on January 4 and by the middle of May I had lost 35 pounds. When I went in for my annual checkup, my total cholesterol had dropped over 30 points, with my LDL's having dropped almost 40 points and my good HDL's going up by 30. I cut out white flour and white sugar and I pretty much eat the perimeter of the grocery store - FRESH foods = lots of vegetables and fruits, cheese, nuts, and lean meats. I have been exercising 2-4 times a week for 30-45 minutes each session (typically walking, but occasionally an elliptical and yoga). Losing the weight was great, but lowering my cholesterol (had been in the 200's for many years and I was headed for medication) was a real blessing from this lifestyle change. You CAN do it!!!!

Well, hello there!! That was the same reason I began my journey on MFP 2 years ago!

    My total chol was 297

it is now 183 with hdl 65 and ldl 127 (which they want even lower:grumble: )

All this was done through diet and exercise. For ME the exercise helps a lot. If I do not do my 4 hrs a week, my LDL goes up.

This month I am trying for no beef, egg yolks, fried foods and to eat green leafy stuff 2 x a day......along with more apples and oatmeal.

    let's see what happens!!

so you think the 'whites' drive up ldl levels? I am trying so hard not to take meds. I went on crestor for 1 week and had nightmares and sweats...............I seriously woke up in the middle of the night drenched......I did not come this far to put that in my body!
