How much water should you drink?

I know the goal on MFP is 8 glasses. But is that 8 -16 oz. glasses, or 8 oz. cups, or 12 oz. restaurant size? And is this amount the same for everyone no matter what you weigh? I have also read other ways to calculate it. 1/2 ounce per pound you weigh, 1 ounce every 200 calories you eat, etc. Or does it even matter? Does other liquids count? Is this all woo?

I do at least a gallon every day, that's like 8 16.9 oz water bottles.

I have kidney issues and I am told by my urologist and my nephrologist to drink until my pee is pale yellow. For me, the amount depends on a lot of factors: my activity, the temperature, what foods I have eaten, etc.

8 “glasses” refers to 8 oz each. The expression is a general rule of thumb rather than a clinical prescription.

First start by asking yourself if there is any benefit to you in tracking water at all.

If you have no signs of dehydration then is there any point at all?
