Hey..I have a question about the fitbit....do you have to be moving your arms for it to count your steps?

No. It reads the vibrations of your foot strike and has an algorithm that will still count steps even if your arms are at your side... or clasped in front of you (such as pacing while giving a speech)

Thanks....I bought a cheap one and I had my hands on the grocery cart and it would not count them....so of course I returned it for a refund...just trying to find something without all the extra options that I don't need....

Fitbit won't count you pushing a shopping cart either. Mine doesn't pick up everything the above poster stated it does either.

Mine does. It also picks up when I pace when I'm on the phone (fitbit on the hand holding the phone). However, I have found that there are times when I am walking it doesn't pick up (such as when I turn around), but then there are other times when I'm aggressively gesticulating and it'll count those as steps. At the end of the day nothing is going to be 100% accurate, but I've found it to be a reasonable estimate.

when i remember, i try to stick it inside my shoe on the side or my pocket. counts okay doing that. if its on my wrist it doesnt typically count unless my arm is moving.
