How much weight should I be gaining a week as a woman who to build muscle with as small amount as fat gain too. I know men are different with muscle gain so I feel like 2 pounds a month is too much? The average woman can only gain .5-1 pounds of muscle a month. Is a 200 calorie surplus the best when trying to gain slow or should it be 150?

I've always heard a 250 calorie surplus for "clean bulk" but I have no idea why or where that comes from.3

You’re about right, with .5-1LB of muscle gain per month. And the amount of muscle you gain per month absolutely relies on your performance in the gym, you’re workout and calorie consistency, and if you’re eating enough. If you’re tryng to be extra safe with the fat gain and gain minimal fat with a bulk, your muscle gain will be on the slower side. But if you’re trying to gain max amount of muscle per month, you can’t be afraid of fat gain, so you will need to eat big and lift big.1
