Haven't had an omlet for awhile so thought this morning would be a good time. 2 eggs, little bit of bisquik, ham, onion, cheese, mushroom, Then of course I needed 2 slices of toast with butter and jam. There went most of my calories for the day. Now I feel like I totally overate. I did log but feel miserable for such a heavy (though used to be normal) meal. 475 cal left for the rest of the day.

475 is plenty for another meal later.
and next time you know to have a bit less cheese, a bit more veg and just one slice of toast.12 -
Once upon a time I used to laugh at folks who ate egg whites. My feeling was that was the part of the egg I didn't like. Then I went away for a weekend with a friend and when she said she was making egg white omelets for breakfast I thought oh no! I decided to choke it down as best I could. It was actually delicious! Honestly I nearly licked the plate. Try egg whites next time. I add mushrooms, spinach, onion, peppers and feta cheese. Cut the toast to one slice or maybe an english muffin (140 cal usually). She added a pinch of paprika to color the omelet but I don't bother anymore. This gives me the omelet experience without the high calories. Do the best you can for the rest of the day and count it as one step in the learning experience.5

I'm going to take a wild guess. 1200 (AKA, too low)
ETA: Scoped the diary, 1280.
Ouch, and checking her diary, none of that stuff is weighed out. So it was probably even more than 800 calories in reality.8 -

Its actually really good lol. I always thought it was common... A bit of pancake batter is how IHOP gets their omelettes so fluffy. It doesn't take a lot. Sometimes I'll add a bit of kodiak cake mixed with almond milk into my eggs for an omlette. Its essentially the same as bisquick just with a little more protein. Highly recommend. 👍5 -
Just make it a maintenance day. That's what I do. It'll stop it from feeling like you're hungry all day because you'll have a little extra, but you won't have gained anything.12

I am pretty sure we've all done this at one point. Make somethign we think will be innocent but realize only after eating and logging that it was a lot more calories than expected. I know i've been there.
I"d make today a maintenance day (and all my meals are under 460cals unless i am planning a particularly large one! so that is still a good dinner to me). and in the future pre-log meals especially those you have no clue what they will end up doing (haven't logged those items before).
But yes, as you listed those items I knew what was coming from past experience Brunch REALLY adds up unless one is super careful (or decides to save up calories and go a bit more splurgy)3 -

Unless you are extremely short and sedentary, your calorie goal is probably unnecessarily low:

+1 to log it, eat a normal healthy meal later, and chalk it up as a learning experience. In the big picture, it's no big deal.

Honestly, the biggest problems were the juice and jam. Make it one slice of bread instead of two, leave out the juice and jam, and you'd have room for a light lunch or snack.
And as others have said OP, double check that your settings aren't too aggressive. If you have less than 75 lbs to lose, 2 lbs per week is not realistic and for many 1.5 lbs isn't either. If you're set to sedentary, double check the settings and make sure you really are sedentary. And if you do exercise, remember you are supposed to log that, and eat back at least some of those calories.
Regardless, lesson learned - we've all been there. :drinker:4 -
You can “earn” more calories to eat by exercising. Also, you can “borrow” calories from another day and do a weekly average instead of daily calorie counts. One meal won’t matter in the grand scheme of things, weight loss will be the sum of what you do over many months/years, you have to be committed for the long haul.2

Here's another weird but AWESOME trick to make pancakes taste amazing...try using 3/4 parts milk and 1/4 parts lemonade when mixing the batter!2 -

I found that interesting too. It's not something I grew up with.
For what it's worth, omelets are one of my most common breakfasts. As an example of one, 2 eggs (abt 140 cal), 0.5 oz of feta (or about 14 g) (abt 38 cal), 2 or 3 different vegetables (50 cal). Either a spray of oil or I use 1 tsp (so another 40 cal). So about 250 cal (give or take, depending on what I use, amounts). I actually like bigger breakfasts, so usually have some fruit or greek yogurt or cottage cheese on the side, or maybe some smoked salmon.
You can experiment and figure out how to do it with less calories. My bet is that you've been denying yourself a big breakfast you used to love, so in your head you had to have everything. If the pleasure is the big breakfast without worrying about the calories (but tracking them, of course), nothing wrong with that on occasion if you adjust the rest of the day.2 -

I think paying back calories on future days is a bad plan and can lead to some negative habits. Banking is good, borrowing not so much.
Besides I think by trying to correct the mistake you might miss out on enjoying the food you ate. This compounds one mistake with another. I am with the others. I think this is a good day to relax and just eat maintenance.9 -
i had an omelette for dinner last night and it came in at 576 cals. probably less cause the sprinkle of green onion and green peppers i tossed in it wasn't 50 calories worth LOL0

Not extremely short, 5'8" but extremely sedentary due to health issues so the 1280 cal is about what it should be. In logging, sometimes I do get lax and not weigh everything but go with the package amounts such as for the ham and bread (45 cal a slice for this particular variety) Butter may have been a little over 1 TBSP but not much. Jam way less than what I would have put on just a few weeks ago. The good news is that breakfast did last me most of the day, had an apple for a mid afternoon snack and just finished my supper. Still under the 1280 though not by much. The original post wasn't so much all the calories, I knew it would be up there but that the way I felt after eating it. Just 3 weeks ago I would not have thought twice about eating that much for breakfast, having a good sized lunch and hitting a restaurant in the evening with DH. I guess my eating habits really are changing.8 -
How much are you trying to lose? I'm a sedentary 5'3" (well, sedentary because MFP's activity levels don't include purposeful exercise) with less than 10lbs to goal, so I'm on 1360 to lose 1/2lb per week.2

to each their own... but I find it easy to eat the very same healthy thing every day for breakfast. I do this because breakfast can eat up most of my calories for the day..and I'd rather have them at dinner.
So, I think nutrition for breakfast. I have three egg whites scrambled with onion, and either spinach, broccoli, or asparagus. sometimes all of them. I put black pepper and turmeric in there for anti inflammation.. and I have oatmeal with blueberries, dash of cinnamon for my complex carb and antioxidant fruit.. and eat a half of a sliced fresh grapefruit to get my vit. C.

At 1280 cals there is no need to under that amount at all.3 -
