Waiting to whoosh

I’ve done this long enough to know that weight loss is not linear and I know the pattern is that after two weeks of staying about the same, I’m going to see some weight drop with a big whoosh! I’m looking forward to it... I was also thinking about the affect that knowledge, and that confidence, has on my attitude toward maintaining my healthy lifestyle and eating at a deficit. I think it actually helps me be more consistent than I would if I thought that tomorrow’s weight would be a direct and measurable effect of how little I ate today. That kind of immediate gratification, my psyche loves it as much as anyone’s, but it can lead to unhealthy behaviors. This “stay the course” attitude forces me to think big picture and long term. I’m grateful for everyone who has contributed knowledge to these discussion boards to help people like me see that!

Also, whoosh days are fun. I usually get 2-3 of them in a row, then some days of very slow .1 or .2 loss, before I go back into a holding pattern.

Just wanted to add my thanks here too.

It was learning about "whoosh" weight loss, here on mfp. Plus looking at the bigger picture and long term averages, that changed my life. Broke the yo yo weight loss, followed by gain pattern of the past.

Almost 3 years later and I'm down 50lbs and have been maintaining my now new healthy weight.

I was set to lose 0.5lb a week, but often went 10 weeks with no loss. Then whoosh 5lbs lost over night!

Knowing this was the case and believing in my tracking & logging kept me on board.
