What are your thoughts on the 14, 21 + day detox cleanses? I eat a healthy diet with very little processed foods. They are a rage!
Have you done a detox and would you recommend it?

Short version of a reply I just left elsewhere - my doctor said my bloodwork and urine results were as clean as a teenagers. No detox used, just eating decently at a slight deficit and exercise. I won't ever use a cleanse.7

@Fitness327wk I try to drink a gallon of water daily to aid my body to be able to detox naturally.21

Absolutely useless unless you're looking to cleanse money from your wallet.

There is no such thing as a "detox" cleanse. They are all the rage because people are easily duped into the new shiny weight loss thing. Your body naturally "detoxes". That's why you have kidneys. Eat a healthy and balanced diet and you will be fine.13

Thanks for the input!2

So if you already eat healthy and avoid the devil's processing, what after you thinking a 3 week detox would do?
Don't get me wrong, if you eat McDonald's every day, you still don't have actual toxic stuff in you. But you're starting from a better place.
If it's for weight loss, people gain weight from calories, not from toxins.8 -
Yeah just one more faddy diet myth to get you to spend your money.5

Some of the ads I've seen recently even acknowledge that your liver and kidneys are your natural defense against any "toxins" you may ingest, which might draw in a person who already knows how the body works. The pitch is for expensive supplements that "support" your liver and kidneys so they can do their job better. No wonder people get confused.8

One of my best friends is currently doing juice fasts followed by "cleanses". I love her dearly and don't want to hurt her feelings by telling her it's all hogwash. She says she feels better. I guess that's what matters some of the time. I feel better after 3 martinis, not necessarily good for me.14

What I think: they make you poop a whole lot. So much, in fact, that I was unable to finish the cleanse. Yes, I was young and gullible once, but I have a better understanding of how things work now, and spending 14 days on the toilet is not going to make a meaningful change in my body... Well, at least not the one I'm looking for.6

I think they are only capable of existing due to people having a very poor background in biology and health.
They thrive on people having a generic idea of the body existing as some kind of internal struggle between purely good and purely bad forces with simple principles, rather than a much more complex, balancing interactions that are often only understandable via empirical study, not rationalizing from just principles.8 -
Money making fad! We just need good old water.1

They are clever get rich schemes. They prey on the fears of people already prone to believe that anything made by man is dangerous (e.g. GMO foods, vaccines, hormones given to livestock, etc.) and needs to be avoided, hence the vilification of non-organic foods containing deadly toxins.5 -
they do nothing but make your wallet lighter.
in general, a large waste of time and money

Not wasting my money! Not looking for any quick diet pill fixes.5
