A warm/hot shower/bath after some light exercise working out all the soreness and kinks. Assuming that it's exercise related soreness and not something else.

If it's just DOMS from a hard workout depending on the severity just stretching and a warm bath may help alleviate the discomfort.

If it's really bad an NSAID such as ibuprofen may help you may even want to torture yourself with an ice bath (they're not pleasant but can help reduce inflammation)

Many of the topical gels do little more than distract your brain from the pain with the use of capsaicin or menthol to create warming or cooling effects, some will contain salicylates that will absorb through the skin offering some pain relief.

Rosehip tea, green tea, turmeric with black pepper, ice, warm heat, warm showers, vegan diet, gentle stretching, res, and Tylenol Arthritis Strength Pain relief. I live with tight muscles after a spinal cord injury and these are my go to options for inflammation, pain, and soreness. Of all of these options, vegan diet has done the most to manage pain and inflammation.

Arnica oli, massaged in to sore areas helps reduce the inflammation and soreness. It's hard to find because it has to be precisely mixed or it can cause problems.

It would be helpful to know the reason.

Hot shower and bath with epsom salts. Foam rolling, stretching, and continuing light activity next couple days really help if it is just DOMS.

Different things work for different people. If something doesn’t work too well, don’t hesitate to try a different product or combine a couple ones.

Knee pain (in the joint, not just sore muscles) is a doctor question, IMO. Some causes are things you can work through. Others, if you try to work through them, will result in an unnecessarily worsened condition - bridges burned, in other words.

If your doctor is noncommittal, ask for a physical therapy referral. The physical therapy folks look at your movement patterns and help you understand how to move with less stress, maybe strengthen certain muscles to balance things out, etc.
