How Can I Maximize weight loss?

I am on day 6 of the 30 Day Shred. I was working out for a couple of weeks before that, but the first day still just about killed me. I need to loose about 50 lbs. I have cut down portions and am counting my calories. MFP says I should be at 1400 a day and I am under that with my exercising. I just want to make sure I can maximize my weight loss. I am struggling with a sugar addiction though. There are many days when I eat a very small portion of the dessert I would normally eat though, lol. I was thinking about adding in another small workout with the 30DS (Im not sure what). I would love some tips on what I am doing and what else I can do.
