I recommend reading "it starts with food", it explains the Whole 30 very well. Good luck!4

I considered it when doing paleo and at the time the only change in my diet required would have been dumping potatoes (they now allow potatoes). I read It Starts with Food and thought the argument for no potatoes was so weak it caused me to reevaluate the whole paleo thing and I realized I think legumes are very healthy, dairy is healthy for me, and grains (particularly whole grains) are something I personally just never overeat and are probably good for me.
That caused me not to do it, but I think it can be a fun challenge if you need incentive to do more cooking from whole foods or to get out of a rut. (I was already someone who cooked from whole foods for most meals, and ate tons of veg, and now I'm currently doing a whole foods based DASH challenge to get out of a rut, but it's actually emphasizing food forbidden on W30 like dairy, beans and lentils, and grains.)6 -
I would really like to try whole30; it came highly recommend to me from a friend. If there is a group this is interested in encouraging each other; sharing recipes, I would love that.2

What are your reasons for doing Whole 30? This didn't originally start out as a weight loss plan, but rather a method for figuring out foods sensitivities and/or food allergies.
If it's merely weight loss you are after, there's no need to make things so complicated. W30 is touted as a weight loss strategy (now) because it eliminates so many food choices, that users almost automatically reduce calories. Weight loss is always about a calorie deficit.
DASH is recommended for certain medical issues, but very good reviews all around.5 -
Here's where US News and World Reports ranked Whole 30 (spoiler alert, not good): https://health.usnews.com/wellness/food/slideshows/best-diets-overall?slide=402

From reading threads here, I think another factor is that some subset of the population finds the less-processed foods in Whole 30 relatively more satiating than however they've been eating previously.
I'd point out that simply integrating more of those kinds of food into one's eating can have similar satiation benefits, without cutting out useful and nutritious foods that are not part of Whole 30.

I messaged you, op. I love whole30. It taught me so much about my body and what works for it. It changed my approach to how I fuel my runs, lifting, etc. ๐๐๐๐งก3

If you want to figure out what foods work best for you, it might be a good idea. If you want to focus on weight loss, it's not really designed to do that. You don't need to cut out foods or food groups to lose weight.0
