Does "fasting" help with weight loss?

This past week I have been eating under calorie goal and working out and I've gained 2 pounds. Any one out in Myfitness world try fasting to help with weight loss? How long do you fast for?

You gained two pounds because new workouts cause your body to hold onto water to repair the muscles.

Oh, and to answer your question.
Hell, no, I don't fast. That *kitten* sucks. It's a great way to set up a binge/restrict cycle. Replace 1200 calories in this chart with "fasting".

You just started working out...you're retaining water with new exercise which is normal. Fasting isn't some kind of magic...I naturally did intermittent fasting before it was a thing and we just called it not eating breakfast and I gained 40 Lbs doing that because I was overall consuming too many calories...weight management is about calories.
You only have one week and I'm assuming your starting weight and this weigh in..that's two data points...not anywhere close to anything you can analyze properly.5 -

I fast between supper and breakfast... like most people.
It doesn't affect weight loss though, thats all about your calorie deficit.
Your weight gain sounds like normal fluctuations to me.3 -
The only reasons you need to fast are if it is required by your religion, or for a medical procedure.0
