Looking to get my first boxing gloves. Looking for insight.
My trainer told me to get the 8oz ones.
I am doing pad work right now, but eventually will also be adding in kickboxing and hopefully, sparring.

These are the ones I have been eyeing up, though the local sports store does the following everlast ones.

At the club where I trained, we used 16 oz gloves for training, bag work, focus mitts and sparring. Kids used 12oz gloves. You can get hand wraps to wear under the gloves or just on their own if you want to be more hardcore for bag work. If your trainer wants you to use 8oz bag gloves, ask why. That's probably just his preference, but you might be better off with something more versatile from the start and save some $.

I used just 10oz gloves . At our gym ( Muay Thai) , for sparring you need 16 oz gloves.
Mine are NZ Boxer brand ( I am in New Zealand) but apparently Twins and Fairtex are pretty good brands. My partner has Twins gloves, he is very happy with them. When I got my gloves I tried on a couple of brands before I decided on NZ Boxer - they just felt better on my hands, so I would suggest if you can trying on a couple of different ones and see how they feel

I use hand wraps as well under, helps absorb the sweat as well as a bit of protection !

Just doing padwork so far, but he is emphatic I go for the 8oz gloves, which apparently are competition weight gloves.

I have looked now into Twins, Fairtex, Top King, Windy and Boon. There is nowhere locally that sells these brands, the only ones I can find locally are everlast and apparently, the cheaper Everlasts are pretty crap with a poor reputation. I need whatever will protect my knuckles and wrists best really, within the 8oz category.

I don't box, but when trying to find weightlifting stuff, I have the same problem, and it seems many places that sell weightlifting stuff, also sell boxing stuff.

Try suggarrays.co.uk I think they sell a lot of boxing stuff.

Also look for MMA shops, and finally, I've just ordered some weightlifitng stuff from a shop in Poland which does wrestling and fighting gear. It's only £10 for delivery, so if it turns out to be ok, I can give you the details.
