I think it's going to work this time

Hi,
I've been heavy all of my life but until the past few years very active. As I get older (now 64) activity has slowed down and guess what, my weight has gone up. Well I've been at the point where I feel uncomfortable, clothes don't fit right, and hate looking in the mirror. I've joked that I start a diet on Monday but by Tuesday or Wednesday I'm back to my old eating habits and have gotten no where. I've been doing this for a year and a half.
Well this is my fifth day here. Just a coincidence but I started this diet on a Tuesday and up to this point have been doing well. I find that keeping track of my intake by counting calories lets me stay on track. I've done this before on other sites but the site navigation and smaller food databases there made it very time consuming. I've found it very easy here at MFP.
Anyway I hope to be here for awhile and get to my target weight and maintain it or perhaps lose even a little bit more.
