The calories MFP gives you are based on all the info you put in, your height, weight, activity level, and how fast you want to lose weight. As long as all that info is as accurate as you can get it, MFP will give you a helpful starting point of daily calories.
MFP is designed so that you should be eating the extra calories from your steps or purposeful exercise. But sometimes exercise calories are hard to calculate; some people find that they are actually higher than their true calorie burns.
Start with eating all MFP’s calories and half of the extra exercise calories. If, after a few weeks, you’re losing weight at the rate you expected, then keep doing that! If you’re losing too fast or too slow, then you can adjust what percentage of exercise calories you eat.
Personally, I think it’s more important to work on accurately weighing all your foods and choosing the correct food entries in the database. If you can be as accurate as possible with tracking how much you’re eating and drinking, a little bit of exercise calorie wiggle room or inaccuracy doesn’t matter too much.
Does this help?
