Weight fluctuations

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced weight fluctuations within the first month. I’ve been eating small portions and a lot healthier food, exercising daily and drinking tons of water. Before Valentine’s Day I weighed in at 258 which is 11 pounds down from where I started, but it crept back up when I got on my period to 263 (which I understand weight gain on your period is normal) and I’m off my period now and it’s 261. I’m wondering if this is normal? Some of my clothes feel slightly baggier but I’m concerned with the huge fluctuations in my weight.

Yes, weight fluctuates for all sorts of reasons: your menstruation, eating a bit more salt, or drinking less, the amount of poop in your intestines, the time of the day you step on the scale, other hormonal fluctuations, travel, starting to work out, even temperature can influence the scale a bit. And of course being a woman.

weight fluctuations are perfectly normal and should be expected for the reasons @yirara listed

Weight fluctuations will be normal forever, not just the first month. The downward long term trend is what's important.

Body weight isn't static...it always fluctuates. Your body is comprised of 55-65% water and that will always be in flux. You will always have varying degrees of food and waste in your system. These are all normal and natural. Fluctuations can also be more dramatic when driven by hormonal changes (ovulation/period), higher than normal sodium, and more carbohydrates as carbohydrates hold onto 3-4 grams of water for every gram of carbohydrate.
