So I've used Libra in the past but every time I went over my cals or ate out my weight went up and I stopped weighing daily this time I'm determined to stick with it. All was going well till my birthday I was under my goal line. I had 3 days where I was "up" but now my weight is heading back down but Libra's line looks weird. Like the trend is slightly up ![:( :(](https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/resources/emoji/frowning.png)

looks normal, the trend will go down if you carry on losing weight....
i always find Libra is quick to trend upwards, and slower to go back down.12 -
Thanks just thought because it's a 7 day smoothing thing it would take longer to trend up -_- my stats say I'm losing again so there's that3

So my trend is pointing back down but I've noticed it doesn't move at all for like 5 days even by a tenth unless I eat out or eat something like pasta or pickles which I haven't been doing lately. So I guess my question is, is there any point to me weighing daily if there is no changes to smooth out?0 -

From previous experience. If I weigh daily I might see a new low before "official weigh/log day" but I have to put up with seeing the exact same number on the scale for days in a row when there should be some fluctuations or so I'm lead to believe. If I weigh weekly I have to have patience to not get on the scale and may face being disappointeddecisions decisions. What would you do?

Enter any old data points you have, and weigh according to a regular schedule. I've been stuck within a 2lb range for 1.5 weeks now and, while annoying, not unexpected.
Besides, hiding/ignoring certain weights won't get you to where you want to go.1 -
It depends how freaked out by the occasional fluctuation you are going to be, if you switched back to weekly weighing, would seeing a 2lb gain on the scale one week bother you, even if you know it could potentially just be down to hormones/sodium/dehydration/exercise intensity/etc? If no then there is your answer. If the answer is yes just continue with daily weighing in.
Either way the scale isn't the only way of determining progress.0 -

i weigh myself 2x a week, monday and thursday, with Thursday being my official day that i log on here. i sometimes hop on the scale a couple more times during the week... i don't have massive fluctuations or a lot of weight to lose (so my deficit is small meaning i'd only lose 0.5lb per week anyway) so i can got a few weeks seeing the same number.
libra is good for the overall trend.
last year i lost 4lbs... its slow going but libra reminds me that overall the trend is going the right way. most of the time!0 -

That's the thing I dont see gains the only time I have was after I went out for my birthday I only stay the exact same for days on then a little drop then the exact same for days again. If I went back to weekly and did see a gain for whatever reason that would make me weigh everyday again until it was gone. I guess my main question is, is it normal to stay the exact same for days on end when I've been lead to believe that weight fluctuates alot day to day?0 -

I don't really understand why you'd switch to daily until it was gone? Why not just weigh again the following week, particularly if you know why it's up. Not everyone fluctuates a lot, some people don't.0 -

Your scale might be lying to you.
Here is my experience with a WW scale.

In short, the scale may be seeing a small difference and displaying the last weight instead of the actual current weight.
To test this, on a day where the scale gave the exact same weight, step off the scale and then step on it with one foot and get the weight. Then step off and back on with both feet and see if it gives you the same number as when you first stepped on it.1 -

Someone else said something similar they grab something heavy weigh then put it down and weigh again I did this yesterday and it did move but only by 2 tenths0 -

Because i wouldn't be able to wait till the following week to see if it was just water weight. I'm impatient like that 😂0 -

I just grabbed the shampoo and conditioner bottles from the side lol I'll try your way next time although I kind of feel like I'm cheating by "resetting" it for it to register a loss it should move on its dam well own if I've lost something 😂0 -

I was the opposite. I didn't think I was cheating, I thought the damn thing was lying to me.4 -
I've also noticed that Libra is VERY quick to send the trend line upwards (for example, this weekend was our opening track weekend, which meant a lot of sodium and full-body sore muscles), so my weigh-ins from Mon-today have been higher than normal (expected on my end), but my Libra was happy to jump my trend line right up! I tried adjusting the smoothing days, it helps, but it's not perfect. downward trends, however, it seems to drag its feet.
Overall I still find it useful, and just have to not let myself get too carried away by what the trend line shows. I find the trend number to be pretty good though3 -

Yes it's my first time sticking to Libra through a bump in the scale "see first comment pic) do you find the weight loss prediction line accurate I set it up to lose 52lbs by November 30th the trend line is currently under my goal line and saying I'll reach it in August ?? How accurate is this?0 -

I don't find it very accurate, and seems to change far to frequently. I've been using Libra for just over a year now, and I can see my overall trend and make my own general prediction.
I'm on a very slow loss, but it's been relatively "steady" at 1 lb/month, but needless to say, my individual weigh ins during that time are all over the place! Having enough data, however, has been pretty helpful as I can zoom out and see the overall trends rather than getting too fixated on the day to day or week to week changes.1 -

Awww man that's a bummer I was hoping it was at least a good predictionreally starting to wonder whether to keep using it now since my weight doesn't appear to fluctuate all that much

Don't see how using it would HURT anything, and if your weight doesn't fluctuate much (mine does - a LOT), then it may be more accurate for you than for me.0

The prediction date is another one of those "if you do exactly what you've been doing" things . . . and none of us do exactly what we've been doing. For example, if you keep the same calorie goal, your weight loss will slow as your body weight gets lighter. If you keep the same calorie deficit (numerically speaking, which potentially would be a Bad Plan for other reasons), then your weight loss would stay at the same rate, but you'd be eating less.
It's just a statistical projection. If you try to wrap your head around what it's actually doing, it can help you understand how to interpret/use it. Try playing with the smoothing/forecast days settings under Advanced Preferences, and see how the projections and trends lines change when you shorten or lengthen the day values. (You can just set them back to the default 7/7 when you're done messing with them; it doesn't affect your stored data, just how it uses the data to show you a projection.)
It's not a crystal ball, sadly.0 -

Yes it's my first time sticking to Libra through a bump in the scale "see first comment pic) do you find the weight loss prediction line accurate I set it up to lose 52lbs by November 30th the trend line is currently under my goal line and saying I'll reach it in August ?? How accurate is this?
The prediction line is based on weight to lose and the required rate of loss to hit your target. So to lose 52lb by November it's 52 x 3500, so if it were say 8 months, that would require a deficit of 758 calories per day, so it will show the prediction line based on that.
The forecast is based on whatever number of days you have in the Advanced settings (default is 7 days) so it uses your last 7 days of weigh ins to determine your average rate of loss and then the trendline will follow that. So unless you have any rather anomalous readings or have been at a higher deficit than you intend to be in the last 7 days, then that will be fairly accurate. This is also how it calculates your approximate deficit.

Yeah Libra loves to be cautious with downward trends
I gain 7lb in water weight (thanks mother nature) and trend moved to a steady increase
In the last 3 days I've lost 6lb of that water........ It still insists I'll be gaining steadily soon 😂
After a week or so of downward movement it will right itself to a slow decline0 -

Ok
now I'm REALLY confused I've just put in all my previous weights going back to my first at 210lbs in April 2016 (I wasn't weighing regularly so not as many as you would think) but that has changed my weight lost this year from 11lbs to 7.6 for 2019 and changed my weight lost in January from 5.8 to 2.3 and my February lost from 4.4 to 4.1 can someone explain this I mean I know I've lost 11lbs this year so why has it suddenly changed

I know it does some calcs in confusing ways - some are calculated off points on the trend line, some off actual weight entries - but I haven't had time to look at it in any details since seeing your post. Apologies!0
