Think of the Cheese

I thought I would share a little story for anyone wondering if weighing your food is important. After almost 8 weeks at this I finally got my food scale yesterday and have been happily using it for my meals. My 1/2 cup of oatmeal, well I had 1/8 of a cup left in the measuring cup after reaching 40g. I eat oatmeal most days so eep!
Moving on to dinner tonight I went to measure out an ounce of cheese. I put onto my scale what I thought was 1 ounce, nope it was only .2 ounces, so I added more .5 ounces, and more, .7, and still more until I finally reached 1 ounce. I looked at the small cheese pile and took a moment to realize that I have been screwing myself out of a lot of cheese! And not just cheese either, a number of foods that I thought I knew the size of were just too small. Others of course have been too high an amount and I haven’t even been weighing things longer than a day yet. I’m scared to see what my usual peanut butter guess is actually going to be.
So if you’re wondering when you should start weighing your food, just think of the cheese.

LOL. It is always an experience when you first start to weigh your food. Good on you for getting a scale and using it.

I noticed that an ounce of shredded cheese was more than I eyeballed too. It was such a relief because I'm a huge cheese fan lol.2

Yes, I think a food scale is not only important for reducing portion sizes as necessary, but for ensuring we get enough food as well! Too often people will pick the lowest calorie goal with the hope that they end up in a deficit because they aren't weighing their food and are just guessing. Just get the food scale! I'm a firm believer in eating as much as possible and still losing weight.3
