Confusion regarding excerise calories and remaining calories

I am a 54 year old, 5ft4in, sedentary woman. As of this morning I weigh 252.2 pounds. I have been doing mfp since December 2018. I have set my calorie deficit for 1 pound a week, which leaves me 1700 calories. I haven’t as a rule been eating my exercise calories back. My excerise calories are a result of a Fitbit calorie adjustment. By not eating my calories back my average calorie intake for the day is around 1300 calories a day. So that would give me around 1lb and 3/4 a week loss. Is this theory correct? What happens as my exercise increase? For example, today I went for an extra long walk and had running around that I don’t usually do. My adjustment was 979 calories. Your thought please!

Is your weight loss since December consistent with what you would expect given your estimated calories in and exercise calories? That's the data that matters. If your estimates of calories in and out have resulted in a 900 calorie deficit every day, that theoretically would mean about 1.8 lbs loss a week, but there are a lot of other variables that affect scale weight. As you lose weight, your activity calories may also drop (there's less of you to move around). But you also may have more energy and might increase your activity. At your weight, 2# a week is sustainable as long as you are meeting your nutrition needs. Eating at least some calories back will help with that.

I'd aim at eating at least half of your exercise calories back every day. This will actually fuel your body, which can result in more unintentional movement, such as fidgeting, and can also help with the intensity when you are exercising.

Mfp is designed that you should eat back at least a portion of your calories from purposeful exercise

How do a know what part of the Fitbit adjustment is just from exercise. I had an 140 adjustment when I got back from grocery shopping. That’s not exercise. So some of the adjustment seems to be coming from daily steps.

This adjustment is the difference between the activity level you have chosen, compared to how much you have actually moved. If you are set at sedentary, you will be allocated extra calories for 'just your daily steps' that are above around 3,000 or so. Eat at least half of these 140 calories back.
