So I recently quit smoking with the help of a vape and Wellbutrin. It was pretty easy to quit using those tools and I'm have a little weight loss due to the Wellbutrin. But the bloat... omg I can't stand it. I know it's normal when you quit and I'm sure it'll pass after a short while. In the meantime I'm taking probiotic, enzymes, slim-tea, lemon and ginger, peppermint oil pills... it's helping a little but not too much. Anyone else experience this? If so how did you get rid of it? or if you didn't, how long did it last until your digestive system evened out again? Thanks!

Hmmm...I've never heard of bloating as a side effect of quitting smoking. I quit smoking in 2012 and don't recall any bloating related to that.

    Maybe it's the wellbutrin?

My ex experienced bloating every time he quit. I don’t think he did anything to help it and he never seemed to quit long enough to see if it went away.

I don’t remember bloating when I quit nor from Wellbutrin (which I started on for other reasons after I quit-although it took my cravings from continual to zero immediately so I wish I had started it earlier).

Maybe...I was on it a long time ago but I don't remember much about it.

    I just came across this...

II. Question: It has been 3 weeks since I quit smoking and became a happy ex-smoker! There are a few lows, but a lot of great highs!!! I do have a problem since I stopped smoking though. I have a problem with my intestines; I often have pain and bloating which is not very pleasant and which coincides with my stopping smoking... Well to be honest, I already had a problem with my bowels, but not as much and above all it did not last as long. Could this be related?

Answer: Yes, it may be related because nicotine activates intestinal transit. Therefore stopping smoking slows down intestinal transit, which can manifest itself as bloating and constipation, which can both cause abdominal pain due to pressure on the intestinal wall. This gradually decreases with the disappearance of withdrawal symptoms in 1-2 months. Make sure that you drink enough and increase the fiber in your diet with fruit, salad, vegetables and whole grain cereals and move! A laxative is only needed in cases of severe constipation.

Thanks for the link. I actually am a lot better now since taking a few courses of enzymes and probiotics, digestion teas and keeping my food light and easily digestible. Yeah, I am still getting some nicotine via Juul so my withdrawl symptoms aren't as bad as if I went cold turkey. I am also taking Wellbutrin which killed my appetite and is making me lose weight. I'll stick to it for another few weeks then come off that too.
