Thanks
I struggled with carbs as well. Then I researched carbs, then talked to my fat doctor, as well as my primary care doc. I educated them with my research. To get past carbs, you have to understand there are carbs in just about everything. The difference is "good carbs" vs. "bad carbs". Apples, bananas, rice, meat.....all good carbs. Pasta, any pasta, bad carbs. Also, don't be afraid to eat. I did, and that fear consumed me.
As far as upping your protein, I use Muscletech 100% whey protein. Again, it frustrated me because it says add to milk. Well the calories shot up. Ok, mix with water....nope, tasted really gross! So, I add it to my coffee (2 coffee pods), a 5.3 oz carton of yogurt, and a scoop of protein powder. Shake that goodness, and that's my breakfast.
Meat isn't a carb, its a protein and fat. And i ate all those foods over my weight loss because they satiated me. And during that time, all metabolic markers improved.
And i can certainly agree to get rid of trigger foods or none filling foods but i also dont believe one should demonize foods. By doing so it gives it a negative meaning, which than makes people believe they are doing a bad thing when they do eat those foods.7 -

Pasta isn't bad. Really, your body doesn't distinguish between "good" and "bad" carbohydrates. It processes carbohydrates, whether they're in an apple or in pasta.5 -
Thanks for all comments. I'm going to try swapping out my oats for eggs and Turkey rashers to up the protein. I have recently hit a weight that I am happy with (8 and a half stone) but still have a lot of fat round my belly so have started doing weights and resistance training. Thats why I thought I should try upping the protein.2

Why would rice be "good" and "any pasta" be bad? They aren't all that different calorie or nutrient-wise. Both can be part of a complete meal including good sources of fat, lots of vegetables, and some lean protein, among other options. Variety is nice, after all.4
