I broke the 1st last year (dropped a 45lb plate on it). Sadly, I hate to report that it took about 5 months to fully heal. I have another friend that broke her foot last year too and reported the same thing. I was able to do flat footed lifts like deadlifts and squats very quickly, but nothing that required the foot to bend for many, many months. The only cardio I could really do was the ski-erg. I'm still trying to build my balance back up.

A very weird finding was towards the end of healing I found wearing heels to be more comfortable than flats because your foot didn't have to bend when walking. I was still limping in flats 4-5 months after. But I decided to try a pair of heels one day and I was able to walk without pain. After a week or two of wearing heels, my foot was fine in any shoe.

I've done it twice. Once on each foot. It sucks so bad.

Both times I wore a boot. My dr was serious that in these kind of breaks you need to avoid pain. It just takes time to heal and if you're "powering through" the pain you're likely compensating in some way that can lead to additional injury. If I recall correctly, I wore the boot the first time the longest cause I tried for too long to just "deal" with it. I want to say it was about 8 weeks. Then I wore normal shoes but was conscious about what felt better (the heel thing is legit) and it was about 4 months in total before I felt completely better. I still feel this one when I'm not paying enough attention to my shoes when I trail run. Specifically if there is lacing that runs right over the initial break point.

the second time I healed much faster, and Honestly I think it's cause I knew right away I needed to treat it and not ignore it. I wore the boot immediately and wore it only for about 3 weeks, was back to "normal" about a total of 5 weeks later.

Good luck and take care of yourself. <3

^ Yes, I was stupid and refused the boot. That probably prolonged my healing.
