I want to cut back on eating I want to start eating in small portions but it’s hard for me to keep it up I want to cut back on the sugar but it’s hard because everyone in my house eats nothing but lots of junk food

Do you do your own grocery shopping? I have a powerlifter husband who eats whatever he wants & an 8-year old daughter who eats...well...what all 8-year olds eat (hello, chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, etc). But I buy & prepare the foods I need to stay on track. My nutrition & goals are my responsibility, not theirs.3

My advise is to get and use a digital food scale. And log everything you eat. You can still eat sugar, but if you weigh it out and log it you will be able to keep the portions where they need to be to fit into your goal. I don't consider any foods good or bad. Some have more nutritional value than others, but I eat whatever I want in amounts that fit my goals. I lost ~80 doing that and I eat something chocolate every day.1

If you are mostly eating food that's prepared for you, as opposed to fixing your own food, it can be challenging - I find that if I am fixing my own food, I can be sure there are lots of higher-bulk veggies, sufficient protein and fat to make reduced portions satisfying. So if that's not your situation, you might consider preparing a "side dish" for the family that would help you out. With the junk food issue, really the only way I have conquered the temptation to eat the family stash is to not eat ANY of it for about a month. After that period of abstinence I found it easier to fit in a reasonable amount to my daily calorie allotment.0

"Cutting back" and "small portions" are very generic terms and invite a constantly-moving goalpost that make you feel like a failure.
Try plugging your information into MFP and aim to eat the number of calories it gives you, of whatever foods you enjoy.0 -

Is there a medical reason you need to watch sugar?
Log a normal week of food and then see where you can cut out cals to hit your goal1
