Exercises for tight hips and lower back

Last week I went to a massage therapist and she said that I was really hard work and that my lower back and hips are extremely locked and that if I don’t manage to unlock them I could be in a wheelchair when im older. Since she has said it I’ve began to notice it a lot more such as I can hardly spread my legs I’ve been trying to do stretches but am not able to spread my legs enough for them to work. Also when I do the exercises my legs start to vigorously shake and really hurt that I have to stop. Can anyone recommend anything that I can do to unlock them or relieve tension

That's a pretty dramatic thing for her to posite and then offer you zero advice about. It's almost as if her livelihood would be helped by you continuing to employ her services.

That said, if you feel like you're being hindered by tightness in that area, daily stretching can't hurt you. It doesn't have to conform to a program or be scientific to help, and even five minutes a day will help over time.

    Good link.

    3. Pigeon stretch is the classic yoga pose for tight hips.

@chloerebeccaxx125 you may not be able to do anything remotely like that initially and in fact a better place for you to start might be 7. Sitting stretch. You may not be able to bend forward hardly at all at first - just do what you can and don't worry about not being as flexible as the models.

Also consider some gentle/beginner yoga classes and discuss your hips with your teacher.

Yoga is best learned in person, but if this is not practical for you try something like Rodney Yee's beginner DVDs or videos like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=Ip2L5oOJZP0
