I'm worried about wasting my time going back to school, i don't even know what i want to be. It's not a money issue at my current job, i just don't enjoy the profession anymore...probably have to just tough it out until death lol

Of course it's always possible to develop new or more advanced vocational skills through practical schooling/training. For the purpose of moving jobs, making more money, increasing job security and having more work opportunities.

I'm pro trade versus academe for the most part.

But BMW mechanic sounds like a very specialized and marketable skill that will always be in demand in metropolitan areas. I wouldn't give it up completely. Maybe freelance once you start doing something else.

Do you not enjoy the work, or you don't enjoy the people around you?

Yes, we need more details! What were you studying and how much do you have left ?

Went straight from high school to Universal Technical Institute trade school (automotive technology program).

I feel like i am stuck and just have to suck it up.

I graduated college at 38 and am in grad school at 40. I'll probably be 46-ish when I finish my doctorate. I know a married couple with 4 kids who both went back to college in their 40s and became teachers.

    You're not stuck.

    It's not too late.

There are more programs than ever now to accommodate non-traditional students.

If you want to make a change, do it!

Hope you'll manage to solve your problem. A hated job is an obnoxious experience. I'm just studying and it's pretty hard. Sometimes I even hire specialists https://paperleaf.ca/assignment/ to deal with my assignments. And what I fear most is a job I won't love. I don't know what to do in such a situation :c

Never too late to go back to school, although it might be easier to branch out into a related area, like teaching auto mechanics or heavy equipment or something like that.

If you hate the whole field and want a complete switch, that's not impossible. I'd recommend that you pick something you genuinely love if you're going to invest the time in obtaining the education though.

It's never too late to go back to school, but you're right- you don't want to waste your time.
There are usually counselors available in every college. You can call one up or chat online- don't feel pressured. You don't have to sign up with anyone. Sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint what you want, so take some time to figure out what are important priorities in your life.

    Good luck!!!

    Is it too late? Never

But first ask yourself what you actually hate about your job. Is it really the work? Or is it the other bs you have to deal with? Your boss? Or your coworkers that *kitten* about everything?
I'm assuming you are a certified BMW mechanic. Would you ever be interested in having your own shop? Or maybe specializing in something else? There are different paths you can go and never having to go back to school for or necessarily get a different degree is what I'm trying to get at.
