Hey MFP, how do you guys stay motivated with your eating and training? Anyone practice these - mindfulness, positive thinking, mind muscle connection. Grateful for any thoughts.

I don’t need to find motivation for something I enjoy doing. Although to be fair I didn’t always feel this way so initially the motivation came from not wanting to die at 40 from poor health and habits1

True. Just curious to learn about other people’s motivations/thoughts0

I meditate every day but I don't really use it to focus on my physical health - not saying someone else can't because I know there are mindfulness exercises directed towards working out and being in the moment. I sometimes do before I hit the gym so I can clear my brain and focus better, or even afterwards to chill out. If it's something that interests you, you should definitely try it and see how you feel. I use an app called Headspace and they have a whole section towards physical health and eating. I think taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental health are all important.
Other times, I tell myself to just start. It's always the hardest. Even if it's just picking up a weight and doing one rep. Goes for anything in life really. You gotta start somewhere. And once you start seeing results, it's almost like the results are the motivation itself to tell you to keep going.1 -
I'm a huge fan of Mike Israetel so I'm gonna put this video link here. There are some other vids (one in particular I think is better than this one but can't find the link right off the top of my head) and articles and stuff he's written on the topic but the progression of motivation etc is:
inspiration
motivation
discipline
habit
passion
You're not always going to be motivated. There are days you just won't WANT to do it. But that's when your discipline has to kick in. When it's 2am and my alarm goes off, I am not like ZOMG YES SO MOTIVATED TO GO TO THE GYM and when someone has donuts and cookies and pizza and stuff at work I'm not like NO FORGET THAT I'M TOTALLY LOVING MY PERFECTLY WEIGHED-AND-MEASURED PORTIONS OF EXACT MACROS but that's when I have to rely on discipline.

For me it’s planning and having my meals prepared ahead of time. Cooking off large amounts of meat and carbs separating them into portions and freezing them. It makes everything else easy.
Lifting, I’m almost always motivated. On the days I’m not I learned I just have to get started. Maybe go a bit lighter to maintain and just make it up the next day. Shoot for the best but something is better than nothing.0 -
