Is it ok that I miss nachos and chicken wings?

There is a commercial for the Harvey Brooker program here in toronto where the spokesman scoffs at the thought he would miss nachos or wings because not eating those things helped him lose and keep off the weight that was "killing him".
Now I'm not doing Harvey Brooker, I'm on Optifast.. I'm doing well, I'm not eating wings or nachos, but god damnit I miss them. If I see nachos on tv I sure as hell wish I was eating them.
So my question is, if I'm missing the naughty foods that are "killing me" and not scoffing at the idea that I would miss it, does that mean I'm not as committed to this process as maybe i should be?

ha. I don't think so. When I first started weight loss I got irritated on this site when people talked about food.
I had to get over it though. People talk about food. There are ads everywhere.
One thing that helped is that I got rid of cable tv. If it's not on Netflix I don't see it. No commercials!2 -
With that said - I ate wings and nachos all through my 70+ pounds weight loss.
You can still eat them - work out a way to fit them in and enjoy.5 -
I eat nachos and chicken wings. Just not as much and not as often.
I try to avoid attributing morality to food. People like to seem better than everyone else because they eat cleaner or less, they brag about how they don't miss "bad" foods, how they do the hardest workouts. Meh, I'm not in competition. Food is yummy. I went out of my way to fit in pizza, beer, fast food, ice cream whenever possible when I was losing weight, and still do now that I'm maintaining. Don't get me wrong, I eat plenty of lean protein, produce, whole grains for fiber, all that good stuff. But I don't think there's anything wrong with having foods that just contribute joy every once and awhile too. What you eat doesn't make you a better person. My application for sainthood probably won't be approved one way or the other6 -
IMO there's nothing wrong with missing nachos or wings. There's nothing wrong even with eating those things. You're not going to be on Optifast your whole life. Part of healthy weight loss is developing a healthy relationship with food. I still have cheeseburgers and fries from time to time. I just make it fits within my goals.
I don't know that Harvey Booker guy is but I don't very much feel like I want to or need to listen to him on this.3 -
i don't believe there are "bad" or "naughty" foods personally. some foods i don't feel are worth the calories even if i want them. some foods don't fit in my calorie goals.
but when i have a craving, i plan it out. I was craving fish and chips so i planned out a meal. i ate a bit lighter that day and saved up some calories over that week (looking at weekly goal). Ditto for pizza, pb and j sandwhich. sometimes i can make it fit in a normal day (pizza has become easy).
i miss being able to add a glass of wine more easily but generally opt for dessert over wine/beer. I miss not having to worry about all this. not having to make the decisions on which is "really worth it". I miss the really really fatty ice creams with all teh lovely brownies and cookies and nuts in it haha.
but i try to enjoy food i like.6 -
1. Those foods aren't "killing you."
2. Eating too many calories, no matter what they are in, is what causes excess weight.
3. It's entirely possible to lose weight (and increase health) while eating wings and nachos.
4. I know because I did it.5
