I get a similar feeling when I am "craving" I call it my empty hollow chest feeling. First noticed it years ago when I quit smoking, and have noticed in the last few years since cutting back sugar. It pops up for me now after holidays or periods of an increase of sugar followed by a return to a normal diet.
I'm not sure if it's the same for you, but that's what it reminded me of when reading your post0 -

Yeah. I think it was either lack of calories or sugar or maybe even both. I haven't had it much (maybe even at all) since eating more and adding normal sugar into my diet again.0 -
Dehydration is my guess, you can feel hungry when your thirsty and I read that true hunger pains are felt lower and thirst is felt in the Chest/throat region.
I drank 750ML of water before and/or during the problem. I don't think it is dehydration. Haha.
S you had 25oz of water and you don't think your dehydrated? I have over a 100oz a day!
Considering it was early in the morning and by the way, everyone is different. We don't all need to drink that much water.0 -
Can you elaborate? I have no idea what you're talking about.
UNLESS....I have an idea.....Is it something like GERD or heartburn and you're craving something that will soothe it? Like milk maybe?
^^THIS
I feel that heartburn too. yep.. heartburn makes persol feel like eating to soothe the pain0 -
cravings? Is there a particular food you want, or just in general? I randomly get the most insane orange juice cravings (linked to magnesium deficiencies) so make sure you listen to your body! Just not it it's Maccas!0

I get that too. I never noticed it before I started paying more attention to hunger signals. It's a feeling at the base of my neck/upper chest.
I get it when I crave something but am not really hungry. Usually something sweet. It happens more if I have just eaten something sweet.
Kind of relieved I'm not the only one who feels this. I'm working on not "feeding" that feeling.0 -

Just saw your post -- exact same here. I've cut back on sugar just because of this feeling which is uncomfortable and annoying and I feel like it is triggered by sugar. Am hoping it will go away eventually!0 -

You're even more dehydrated in the morning since you didn't drink all night. I would suggest doing some research on how much water you need. Even if that isn't the problem your previous statement that it was early and you don't need a lot of water is kinda silly.0 -
I currently have a similar problem. Let me suggest you consult your primary care physician because you are describing some pretty classic symptoms of either acid reflux (GERD) or hiatal hernia. Google this for more info.
It has taken me years to recognize the need to eat something was really a response to acid reflux. Complicating the situation is a possible hiatal hernia. On your own, you could try chewing Tums following your symptoms and see if that helps at all. Also keep a diary of your symptoms. Additionally you could take Prilosec for a couple of weeks, but my recommendation is SEE YOUR DR! She will possibly order a barium swallow or other diagnostic tests to solve your mystery.
Good luck!:flowerforyou:0 -
To me it sounds like a spastic esophagus. I have that trouble. It is like the food doesn't go all the way down and seems to be stuck in your chest. It can also happen after a bite and feel like you are not going to be able to breathe.0

Perhaps you may be having gerd(acid reflux).
I have it and I experience the 'eat to soothe the burning throat and chest.'0 -

I know I"m a little late in replying but upon searching the web I found this describing exactly what is happening to me right now. I feel hunger pangs in the back of my throat, I feel like I could eat a horse LOL....I have been watching what I eat the past week and cut down on sugar and sweets. I just gave in because it was driving me crazy and ate a pack of seaweed sheets, then 2 mini donuts (thanks to my kids for having them lol) and a muesli bar....hunger pangs still there....drank 2 glasses of water, no help. I've had my thyroid checked and it was all clear. This only happens when I cut down on sugar. It also happened when I went on a 2 week juice fast, I believe that was the cravings I was starving so I just dealt with it for the 3 horrible days. However right now I'm not really going hard core on dieting, I was just cutting my calories to 1500 a day and trying to limit sugar....or at least unnatural sweet things.
Not sure if you ever found out what it was or it disappeared, but just wanted to say that you're not alone.0 -
I experience this feeling in my throat or chest and I feel like eating when it comes. Is this normal?
drink 0ne to two glasses of water before a meal and not drink water after. You can try drinking a bit of sweet drinks. Just in moderate. Good luck!0
