While decluttering a load of old papers I found a gym assessment, fitness test and health assessment from April 2000.

THEN / NOW

40 years old, IT Manager / 59 years old, retired.
Sporadic strength training and squash / regular strength training and 100+ miles a week cycling

Weight - 196lbs / 172lbs
Bodyfat % - 25% / 15 to 17%
Blood pressure - high end of normal / low end of normal.
Resting HR - 65 / 48
Strength - good / very similar but with variations due to various injury restrictions
Stamina - average / excellent
Lung Peak flow rate - good / excellent (almost blew off the scale)
VO2 Max - 36 / 40 to 42

I'm thinking that by the time another 19 years go by I'm going to be in great shape!

And this is why cycling is awesome - besides that it is way too much fun!

Well put - if I didn't enjoy it so much I wouldn't ride so much.

So cool! The impressive thing is how long you’ve kept at it!

I've always loved exercise in its many forms but only got the time to invest in it properly in my early 50's when career and family commitments allowed me to indulge my hobbies. Coupled with finally losing my excess weight at the same time was a virtuous circle.

Nice work. My job was eliminated in 2016 and I had 6 months of retirement before going back as a contractor. The extra time available as a retiree is fantastic to help you get in shape.
