Hello, I just re joined my fitness pal today! I’m weighing in at 16 stone 12 and have set myself a goal of 12 stone to start off with! I have been back and fourth with MFP each time getting annoyed with myself for going over my daily calories etc and giving up! I really want to do it this time! I’m so determined, I’ve been reading that consistency is key! Although obviously I will try not to go over I have read even the odd day you do still log everything! Before I’d get annoyed, deleted my food dairy and give up! Any advice? X

We all have those days so dont get annoyed. You arent going to be under everyday. Ive set my weight loss at 2lb per week so the chances of a bad day turning into a gain would be very slim as youd need to eat a heck of a lot to make it a gain. If you have a bad day complete your food diary and it will tell you weather its a loss, gain or maintain. You have to remember you are human and there will be days when you eat more. Last night I went out with friends and had chicken fried rice with curry sauce. I was deteremined i was only going to have a bit but I had the lot. It was over a 1000 calories! But because I had been swimming it was still a loss. If you have a bad day, just started again the next day, maybe put in more exercise time if it helps. But just start again. Giving up wont help you. But starting again will xx

Could not agree more re consistency.

What I found really important was taking the time up front to experiment and learn what worked for me, what causes me to go off track, etc. This took a few weeks to work through.

In the process. I discovered that my 2 main triggers were letting myself get too tired or too hungry. I also figured out that I jumped in way too aggressively in the beginning, particularly in trying to add too much physical activity (which led to getting over tired and overly hungry!)

I ended up understanding the best macro mix for me (around 1600 calories with 110-120 g protein, 150-175 g carbs, 65 g fats, 30 g fiber). I gradually added more e exercise over time instead of jumping in all at once.

Once I learned what worked for me, it was pretty much smooth sailing and I lost 50 pounds in 6 months and have been in maintenance for almost 2 months (another learning curve)

Best wishes for you going forward. Be patient and give yourself time to learn what works for you.

    1. Don't Undereat!
    2. Get a food scale and use it.
    3. Be kind to yourself and commit to the long-game.
