Losing weight too fast ?

So I recently started this and I was wondering whether I might be loosing weight too fast. I’ve lost 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) in a little bit more than a week and I know the recommended weight loss is 0.5kg or 1lb a week. I know some of it might be water but it still think it might be too much, given than I’m already quite petite, 54.7 kg / 120 lb for 1.60m / 5ft2. I’m eating the recommended MFP calories namely 1270 a day, and when I’m exercising I try to eat back half of my calories. I even eat some kind of treat every day (cookie / cheesecake / pizza...). So with the calories I eat back from exercising I usually end up at 1400-1500 a day. I don’t want to end up gaining the weight back so I was wondering whether I should increase my calories and by how much ?

You are likely on the right track. Typically when a person begins a caloric reduction that is below the normal eating habits, you tend to lose weight quickly in the first week or two. Mostly water as you suspected.

Give it some time. Your body will adjust. 5 lbs. in the first week is not unheard of. In my case I lost 10 lbs. in 8 days, mind you I went from about 2400 calories a day to just under 1100 and virtually no sugar at all.

My case was a bit extreme because I was trying to reverse a recent diabetes diagnosis and read that there has been great success in reversing type 2 diabetes with short term high weight loss. Essentially the goal of the program is to lose 35 lbs. in 3 months and then sustain the loss for the long term. The caloric intake per day is 800-1000 calories on a structured diet with supervised reviews twice per week.

At 5'2" and 120 lbs I'd suggest you don't go overboard...you are already petite enough!

the first week some will lose faster due to woosh of water weight loss. (or none) so it's not always a good representation of over rate of loss over time. you can keep at it a few more weeks and adjust your food based on how things go.

however, you are already well within your healthy weight range so i'd recommend 0.5lb/week rate of loss.

I am 5'1, 118pds losing 0.5 at 1400 calories so similar stats once you include your exercise calories.

    congrats on your success!
