@hpearce123, stop by our Intermittent Fasting group at MFP. We're a small group of IF practitioners and among us are some experienced 5:2 fasting types. You can visit us by clicking this link:

Unfortunately, I have no experience with 5:2 but others there do. Be patient if you pose a question there because it's a small group. But as far as support goes, start a journal there and I'll be your biggest cheerleader. Hope to see you soon.

A friend of mine does it and loves it. She doesn't use meal plans, though -- the benefit is she just counts (and eats one meal) on 2 days (about 500 cal) and eats as she normally would without counting on the other 5. She just used it to lose some baby weight/vanity lbs and now to maintain and never was overweight.

If concerned about your ability to eat too much on the 5 days, I'd log but aim for maintenance, and again eat whatever you want (but a healthy diet, of course). I'd personally aim for a bit higher in protein on the 5 than otherwise, since the 2 days are necessarily lower in protein because of the low cals.

My friend does it because she finds it an easier means of controlling her weight, so doesn't really need motivation -- the idea was to pick something easier (for her, I don't think I'd like it).
