In a rut

I have a 20 pound weight loss goal. I have been on MFP off and on for several months. I get frustrated because I can never lose more than 5 pounds. I am 71 years old and in good physical condition. I exercise (cardio and weights) 4 days a week. I think I am taking the correct supplements and eat a balanced diet. Could it be that I am not overweight enough to see anything but a methodical and slow weight loss?

74 here. I have lost 50+ pounds over 7 months to get to goal weight (5'7", 132 lbs ... which is in the middle of BMI for my height). The last 10 pounds certainly went slower than than the first 40.
I really never had a plateau, but I steadily increased exercise over time. I do some form of exercise every day (a variety of different activities) usually averaging in total around 2 hrs per day.
Not sure where you are re "ideal" weight for your height, but if you legitimately have weight to lose, you might consider tweaking exercise and/or calorie intake a bit.0 -

If you only have 20 lbs to lose, you really shouldn't be expecting to lose more than @ 1 lb per week. So if you are only sticking to it for a month or so, you're only going to lose 5 lbs in that period of time. Maybe you just need to be more patient?
Set your goal to lose no more than 1 lb per week, log accurately and consistently, don't stress a bad day where you don't stick to the plan or a bad week where you do the work but don't see it on the scale. The time is going to pass anyway, so try to keep figuring out a way to eat that you enjoy and keeps you healthy at the right calorie level.
