I recently started working out 3 times a week on the elliptical for 30 minutes at a good pace. I’m 192 5 foot and 45. Can I set my goal to lightly active or not active? I’m just not sure how much exercise is needed to be considered lightly active. Thank you

Exercise isn't considered at all in the activity level you choose. Your activity level is how active you are outside of exercise. That's why MFP has you log exercise and eat back those calories, because they are not accounted for in your activity level.

Your exercise is not part of your activity level. The activity level should only take into account your normal daily activity such as your job. Your exercise is separate, and you are supposed to eat back the calories you burn from exercise when you do exercise.2

This is confusing to me too. I don't currently have a formal exercise regime, but I'm a teacher and I volunteer at a dog shelter 3 times/week so I do a lot of standing and walking.0

purposeful exercise is not part of your daily activity level. that is why you eat the exercise calories back (as discussed in your previous post)2 -
I have my activity level set to Sedentary as I sit at a desk all week. That's the definition of Sedentary.
In the Exercise tab, I log my gym activity (4 times a week) and walks (6-7 times a week). However, MFP thinks my time on the cross trainer / elliptical burns an awful lot more calories than the machine says I do. As the machine knows what speed and intensity I exercised at, I go with that - I play with the number of minutes I need to enter to MFP to get as close as I can to the more accurate number of calories burned. I'm fairly confident that what MFP gives me for walking is accurate. Then I can eat all my exercise calories.0
