Overweight and have Crohn's

I have had crohn's for 17 years and have been over weight most of my life. I recently had a bad flare and eating healthy on a low residue diet is hard. Do any of my fellow crohnies have any advice for me?
I need to lose some weight and get healthy.

I hope you will soon be able to calm your Crones soon. Its not that long ago I had an arthritic flare, (I realise in many ways its totally different though it shares inflammation as its key) It took me a very long time to get it back under control, I hope it will take you less time to ease your symptoms. Please accept my thought, kindly, if you are not taking a Functional Medicine Approach please read into it, if you can reduce the inflammation you should feel better. I found this approach really helped me.

I would hope you have been tested for food intolerances and allergies, general medicine is getting better but it has its limitations. If you view IBS as another presentation of autoimmunity, which some do and have responded well to eliminations. it is often the proteins which cause reactions, casein is very often a reactor rather than lactose. you could try using rice milk though it might take a while to show improvements. I would not recommend using soy milk because soy can produce reactions too. Alternatively goat milk has a different balance ok casein being type 2 dominant with traces of 3 and 4. some bovine milk is A2 though I would go for the rice first. Gluten, I'm sure you have heard of this as an irritant.

One of the things I react to is salicylate, plant protection against moulds and mildews, it wiped out my consumption of most fruits and veg but I have been taking digestive enzymes for years covering all types of proteins, the one I use also covers salicylate. When you have a damaged digestive system you tend to be lower on vitamins and minerals so you are less able to make the enzymes. You could also look into paraben, this is mostly atmospheric, laundry residue, perfume, cleaning products, petrochemicals. This is probably too obscure for many in the population, everyone's core triggers are different.

    All the very best.
