How can I start working out?

Currently I have zero activity. Working out just isn’t my thing but I know in order for a healthy lifestyle I’ll need to start moving my body. Any suggestions on what to start with? Or even how to start? Thank you!

Try a bunch of different activities and find one you enjoy.
If you don’t enjoy it you are less likely to stick with it. You don’t have to thinks in terms of traditional exercise either. Things to consider:
- Skating
- Cycling
- Running
- Walking
- Lifting weights
- Exercise videos (try a bunch...not all trainers appeal to everyone)
- Dancing
- Martial Arts
- Group Classes
- Swimming

Do something you like...walking, cycling, running, etc. A workout doesn't have to be some crazy thing you're doing in a gym or class or droning away on stationary equipment.
Most of my exercise is on my bike...I love to cycle, so it's no biggie. I also do some rock climbing here and there and some hiking and swimming and like to shoot hoops with my kids.1 -
After a lifetime of being sedentary, I started with walking. After I was able to build up better cardiovascular health and do that comfortably, I progressed to hiking and eventually running. Also biking and swimming. I’ll never go back to being sedentary again. My advice is to start with simply walking and slowly but gradually build up distance/speed.1

Do you have anyone in your life who will start with you? I find it’s fun and motivating to work out with a friend. Try whatever sounds fun to you, just make sure to start easy.1

I would recommend this beginner walking plan: https://www.heart.org/idc/groups/heart-public/@wcm/@fc/documents/downloadable/ucm_449261.pdf1

Getting out and walking regularly is a great place to start and will help get you used to moving more. It's a low impact, fairly enjoyable form of exercise that makes it fairly sustainable for most people. Many start there and many continue to do nothing for exercise besides walking. I personally started there and built up to higher intensity work.1

Go for walks. Each week extend your walk. Go on from there.0

A couple of general tips for that:
1) Start with very short workouts, like 5 minutes. That way it doesn't seem like a big deal. Each workout, add a minute or 2. You can also do multiple shorter sessions per day.
2) Do something every single day. Our bodies are designed to be active. After a few weeks, it will be a habit.
