Hi there if you're reading this.
I'm trying to lose around a stone (maybe more) Does this method really work when consistent? Is it really possible without joining a slimming group?
I've lost weight with Weight Watchers last year but it made me become deficient in many nutrients and become ill.
Really hoping I can reach my goal.

Yes, most definitely. It is just important to be honest and accurate. A food scale is important to stay accurate, especially since you don't have a lot to lose. Patience is also key. The nice thing is that you can better track to know you're eating enough and getting enough nutrients (at least, the ones on the food label).0

Yes. I'd say when done consistently and accurately, this is the most effective method out there. Weight Watchers, Slimming World, etc, all do a less accurate version of calorie counting, which is assigning special points or values to certain foods in the hopes that it will get you to about where you need to be with your calorie intake. It's much better to save the money and instead focus on the actual calories that are in the food you are eating and track that.2

Yes it absolutely does work. Don't try and take in all the advice on here from day 1, you'll go nuts!
You can control both calories in and calories out. In very simple terms, if you can create a deficit of 3,500 calories a week you will lose 1lb per week. More and you'll lose more. You can eat and drink what you like to make up the calories set by MFP.
Weight loss, especially for women, is not linear though so dont get disheartened if the scales dont move or indeed go the 'wrong' way occasionally. Give it a few weeks.
Good luck.0 -

Weight loss and weight management in general is about calories. Calories are a unit of energy...your body requires so many calories the maintain the status quo...ie support your mere existence, daily stuff, exercise, etc. When you consume more energy (calories) than your body requires, it is stored for later use as body fat...it's just stored energy...it's like your backup generator. When you consume fewer calories than your body requires, that deficiency of energy has to be made up for...so your backup generator kicks on and you burn body fat to make up that difference.
Whether you're counting calories, doing some slimming program or weight watchers, or doing a low carb plan, etc...they all work the same way...they leave you in a calorie (energy) deficit because that's how you lose weight.2
