Whole 30 did not start out as a weight loss plan. It was designed for people with un-diagnosed allergies/food sensitivities. Many people lost weight because there is a long list of restricted foods. When eliminating huge groups of food, your calories generally go down.
But as you point out.....unless you log calories you won't know if you are under-eating or overeating. People could also gain weight using W30.
A large % of people are overweight because their portions are too big. Unless you are logging "regular" food, how do your habits change when you get to goal. Is W30 a life-long change? Learning real portions for "regular" food is a great learning experience that can help people lose weight AND keep it off.6 -
Loved the whole 30! It isn’t for weightloss though and with the restrictions it has, I absolutely wouldn’t be counting calories. Just getting through each day was hard enough lol. It is excellent for figuring out if you have food sensitivities and how different food groups may affect your body. Food can cause inflammation and this is an elimination diet that slowly reintroduces common categories of food to see how it affects you. Know a few people that went through it but then extended to test nightshades because they continued to have issues. Turns out, the nightshades were the issue.1

Also, for some people, was a good way to reset palate and notice how certain foods may cause cravings amd such.0
