Help my exercise program

I have lost 60lbs now, I am down to losing 1lb a week and about 20lbs to go (I think). I run 5k about 3x a week and a 10k 1x to 2x a week. I want to add weight lifting as I've heard that will get me the results I'm looking for, the weight at this point is just a number.

Should I run less to lift more? Should I lift on short run days? I really fell in love with running so I want to keep it up, but I also want to get stronger, if that makes sense.

How much time do you want to devote to fitness? How much time can you devote, while still maintaining a happy overall life balance (enough time for job, family, non-exercise hobbies)?

    Lifting can help your running.

Take a look at the MFP-user-endorsed strength programs, pick one that works well for you, and ask questions on that thread about how to structure your workout days (commonest is weights before cardio on weight training days, but there are potential reasons to vary):

Choose a strength program that helps your chosen sport of running. I think I’ve seen people post some programs from runners magazine here.

I would start with dropping a short run and add a full body lifting program 2 or 3 x a week.

You should be ok to lift and run the same day, just keep the runs easy.

I find that two short runs, one longer run, and two days of full body lifting works well for me. I just alternate running and lifting days.
