That still a loss... why do you think you've already gained it back?

I scale weighs more than fat. It weighs you, including your water weight and food weight, both of which can vary greatly by several pounds just based on a change in habits. Scale weight should only be considered once you have enough data points to establish a trend, which takes a few weeks at least. Stick to your plan, make sure it's not so restrictive that you are expecting results immediately (because it's too rough and you want it to end), and see the scale as just data for a few weeks.

I've lost 25 pounds so far. And I've done it with a lot of weeks of only losing .2, .4 pounds, etc. Then after a few weeks of having those weeks, I'll have a week where I lose 3 pounds. The body is weird and water weight fluctuates a lot. You can't draw any real conclusions from just a week or two. Stay the course for at least a month and then you can reevaluate.

Try not to say “only” and “lost” in the same sentence. Try to keep the idea from taking root in your head. The central idea of weight loss is to lose weight. Whatever you’re doing, it’s working.

It’s ok to struggle. Especially when just starting. Try not to stress about the big picture. Keep trying to hit your calorie number and get losses when you weigh in. If you weigh every day, don’t go to pieces if you gain on any particular day.

Just like building muscle at the gym, you will build confidence by doing the day to day work. Nothing succeeds like success. That .4 lb loss is hard evidence that you’re doing something right. Don’t let your brain trick you with its negativity. It’s just a bad habit you’re brain has. Keep working.
