Hip flexor strain, anyone?

About 6 weeks ago I noticed pain in my hip flexor area. Not severe, I just felt it. My exercise routine was jump roping (I kick my knees up and get fancy with my jump roping!) for cardio, strength training with free weights, and long runs on the weekend. When I noticed the pain, I thought it wasn't bad and continued on for another 4 weeks. At the end of the 4 weeks, the pain at the end of a long run made me stop. I hurt. Hurt bad enough that I haven't done any workouts for 2 weeks now.

I work a job where I am constantly walking (I wear my heart monitor and I burn 800+ calories a night) and I am doing no additional exercise.

My questions:

How long did it take you to recover?
Does anyone else have an active job and is trying to recover from a strain?

The timeline for recovery will depend on what the injury is. If it's inflammatory, rest and ice and NSAIDs will generally calm it down in one to two weeks, and then when you resume the activity that caused it (presumably with form problems), it will come back.

If it's a small muscle tear, those take a bit less time to heal, and there, active recovery is more productive than full rest. So you have to figure out what the nature of your injury is, and then take appropriate course.

What you describe is sufficiently vague that strangers on the internet are not going to be able to help you -- you'll have to do your own research on sports medicine sites.
