Sodium really slowed my weighloss.

For way too long, I was eating and exercising but I was always bloated. I lost fat weight, but the scale didn't move...if that makes sense. Well, I always felt like low calorie trumps low sodium so I never worried about sodium. But just 2 weeks ago I decided to change that because I was tiered of always feeling like like crap , especially after all the work I put in to become healthy.
I can say this, lower my sodium intake to mfp recomended or slightly below has made a huge impact in just a short time. I also started to drink more water.
But I dropped 4 pounds inthe last 8 days, and I bet 3.5 of that was excess water I was carrying around. I feel so much better because my calorie allowance is set for 1 pound a week, and I eat a little less then that.
As I look back at my sodium history, I have been way over my limit almost everyday. I was always bloated and "puffy" feeling.

Excess salt can definitely have an impact on water weight! There are these vegan hot dogs I love that contain a lot of sodium, so I have to watch my portions or else I get bloated. The fat will come off either way, but it definitely feels better in the stomach area to have less water retention.

Thank you for this! Very insightful. I think I may be guilty of too much sodium, too. I really needed to read this.

I wish. I was going to season my fish with lemon pepper the other day. But when I looked at the label I decided against it. Something like 850 mg of sodium for 1 serving. lol.

I almost never season with salt when I cook (I still have a high sodium diet from eating a lot of prepared food and cold cuts, but that's a separate issue). I prefer pepper or a good hot sauce (which will have a low sodium content). It adds a more defined flavor and doesn't add any more sodium.

I use Nu-Salt to get more potassium into my diet.

Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper doesn't have any sodium. I enjoy many of the Mrs. Dash products.
