Staying Motivated?

Hello! I have read and heard that weight loss is more successful when you have help. I have tried this on my own for years but can't seem to stay motivated and focused. Any help would be appreciated!

If you have any questions or what to take a peak into my daily food/exercise log, feel free to add me. Going strong on MFP for 3+ years now and down to 18.8% body fat for my summer cut.

I think the biggest key to staying with it is making tiny incremental habit changes, one at a time. Don’t try to create a whole new life for yourself all at once; it will become too hard to keep up because you’ve set such high expectations for success.

Start with defining your goal (for example, my goal is to get to a healthy BMI and stay there). Then make one tiny do-able habit change towards that goal (for some people, the first step is drinking enough water every day. For some, the first habit is logging all food they ate. And for some, the first habit might be taking body measurements every week.) Whatever small habit you can handle right now towards your goal, start with that and really get it down-pat. Once you’re ready, add the next habit (for example, staying within 100 calories of your target, or maybe walking an extra 10 min a day).

Then just keep going, adding habits you can handle and that you can see yourself sticking to for the rest of your foreseeable future. Resist the temptation to make unrealistic short-term habits (like eating only 1200 total calories every day, or cutting out all pizza or never having dessert again). These are sure ways of destroying your willingness to stick with your plan long-term.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks so much! I put a post it note on my computer today asking "What is my mini goal for the day?" Today I drank plenty of water and not a lot of caffeine. I had made a pie this weekend. After a few bites, I threw it out. I had just wanted a few bites of something sweet but when that was over, that was enough. No sense in having it around to tempt me. Thanks for reaching out to me. I appreciate your time!
