Is it okay to be under on carbs, fat, and sodium?

Almost every day, I seem to consume significantly under the recommended amounts of carbs, fat, and sodium. Is this okay? I tend to steer clear of bread, cheese, and processed foods; I also don't eat meat. I eat a lot of fruit, so I'm often a little over the limit on my sugar intake. I also tend to have a big protein deficit, which I know is awful. More often than not, my calories are under my daily recommended amount.

Any suggestions? I really, really want to go about this the healthy way and I feel like a blind person trying to walk in a foreign country. I know nothing about healthy eating. :-/

Being under on fat can be a problem, if it's severe enough, and sustained enough. It messes with your hormones and makes you a sad panda.

I definitely don't want to be a sad panda! I'm guessing that there are healthy fats and unhealthy fats. For example, maybe nuts have healthy fats and cheese pizza has unhealthy fat? As I said, I'm a bit lost.

I only just started logging on here (I used other sites in the past), so I don't really have any food diary info to share at the moment.

I would suggest getting your share of fat...but make sure it's mostly good fats (almonds, olive oil, avocados, ground flax seeds etc) and not bad fats (butter, high-fat cheese, etc). Steer clear of trans fats. Our bodies need to have some fat but it needs to be the good kind of fat. This website has good info on fats - http://www.helpguide.org/life/healthy_diet_fats.htm

Thank you, Lisamay! I'll make it a point to incorporate more of those into my diet. :-)
